Mindfulness meditation training changes brain structure in 8 weeks

Participating in an 8-week mindfulness meditation program appears to make measurable changes in brain regions associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. In a study that will appear in the January 30 issue of Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, a team led by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers report the results of their study, the first to document meditation-produced changes over time in the brain's grey matter.

Wow! What new age mysticism here in the great tradition of phrenology and Mesmerism...How about reporting on some research on "conscious dreaming?" Oops, I forgot about that madman in Arizona. Where's Lisa Zyga when you need her?

Ben Bernanke always was a revisionist liar… but now his misguided policies are actually killing people... literally.

In case you’ve missed it, food riots are spreading throughout the developing world Already Tunisia, Algeria, Oman, and even Laos are experiencing riots and protests due to soaring food prices. 

As Abdolreza Abbassian, chief economist at the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), put it, “We are entering a danger territory.”

Indeed, these situations left people literally starving… AND dead from the riots.

And why is this happening?

A perfect storm of increased demand, bad harvests from key exporters (Argentina, Russia, Australia and Canada, but most of all, the Fed’s money pumping.

If you don’t believe me, have a look at the chart of the Rogers Agricultural commodities index below:

As you can see, it wasn’t until the Fed announced its QE lite program that agricultural commodities exploded above long-term resistance. And in case there was any doubt, QE 2 sent them absolutely stratospheric.

As a consequence of this, many developing nations (where food accounts for a larger percentage of income) have already broken out in riots, protests, and other demonstrations.

Some commentators see this situation and say, “so what, that will never happen in the US.” These folks are in for a RUDE surprise in the coming months.

-McDonald’s plans to raise prices in 2011

It’s really a striking situation to see academics employ policies that result in actual people starving and still say with a straight face “inflation is contained.” Seriously, how does Bernanke see the situations occurring abroad (and now in the US) and NOT think he might be off base (yes, I know the answer, it’s a rhetorical question).

Most folks talk about inflation and think of the images of Weimar Germany where people literally burned money for fuel. They don’t think of starvation and food riots. But that’s exactly what’s occurring in the world right now as a result of Bernanke and his cronies attempts to keep the big banks (all of which are insolvent) in business and cranking out the bonuses.

This is the darker side of inflation folks. It’s the side most people don’t want to talk about. But it’s real.

While I agree with the gist of your writing, the attempt to sell survivalism rather than a economic solution allows any wary reader to wave away the reality you report as merely another case of a crank trying to scam some dough. Unless the speculative bucket shop gambling casino is shut down and we return to sovereign credit systems based upon productive investments in the physical economy, no amount hand wringing survivalism makes a bit of difference to the future well being of humanity. And after all, we all are going to kick the bucket sooner or later...What matters is what we leave behind us, don't you think?

Why Insurance Companies Heart Obamacare

Anyone who has actually thought clearly about "Obamacare" has realized long ago that this is a corporatist scheme by insurance companies and Wall Street to increase their looting of America. Different packaging of the rationale for this corporatist looting is played to appease the prejudices of both left and right. For the left its all about compassion for suffering and right to die a dignified death. For the right its smaller government, lower taxes, and the right to "prosperity." Both roads lead to the same dead end...The problem with America's voting public is a lack of courage to unshackle oneself from the self imposed ideological blinders of such left versus right hogwash. Just as in Jonathan Swift's fable of the Liliputian wars over which side to crack one's egg, this ideology has been manufactured as a means of controlling the "debate." A new "study" entitled Energetic Limits to Growth portentously warns:


"The bottom line is that an enormous increase in energy
supply will be required to meet the demands of projected
population growth and lift the developing world out of
poverty without jeopardizing current standards of living

substantially increasing energy supplies are highly uncertain.
Moreover, the nonlinear, complex nature of the global
economy raises the possibility that energy shortages might
trigger massive socioeconomic disruption. Again, consider
the analogy to biological metabolism: Gradually reducing
an individual’s food supply leads initially to physiological
adjustments, but then to death from starvation, well before
all food supplies have been exhausted.
Mainstream economists historically have dismissed
warnings that resource shortages might permanently limit
economic growth. Many believe that the capacity for
technological innovation to meet the demand for resources
is as much a law of human nature as the MalthusianDarwinian
dynamic that creates the demand (Barro and

Proof of Spiral Wave in Neocortex

It is with great satisfaction that I welcome the news of this spectacular research. Over the course of this blog's history, I have maintained that there is an analogy with a form of spiral shockwave in nature with its correlative acting upon human society via technological advance. It is therefore absolutely lawful that these researchers show that so called traveling brainwaves are also spiral. This advances Bernardt Riemann's insight that new ideas create actual massive objects or in today's parlance neurogenesis, coupled with his work on shockwave propagation. It is the case that a spiral form of pathway along a horn results in an acceleration of a shockwave dynamic up to a singularity. This is what I have attributed to how society passes in a nonlinear fashion from one technological mode of functioning to an ever higher manifold of functioning.

It demonstrates a form of action which has a unique and universal application. Viz: a cylindrically formed  plasma torii whose succession  amounts to the characteristic shockwave horn formation over time. This bears a remarkable equivalence with this author's model for the metastable shockwave spiral pathway along the horn tore or anchor ring. This same tore that Archytas put to such good use in his proof for doubling the cube. This model hints at a property of the evolvability of universal action that Cusa perfectly illuminated in his work the Non Other.

I think we need body and brain scanners from space to track all humans, robots, plant, and animal life. Then and only then, will we achieve a modicum of security. We are after all dealing with an irrational enemy, so we must be just as irrational ourselves in order to defeat them. It just stands to unreason.

Why did Obama, according to an ABC article,  say the following:“It means some adjustments for China, so we understand that this not solved overnight. But it needs to be dealt with and I’m condiment it can be,” he said, “All of us need to avoid actions that perpetrate imbalances and give countries an undue advantage over one another.”

NGOs and Haiti

Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab, reporting from the capital, Port-au-Prince, on Sunday, said Haiti's minister of health had claimed that NGOs were exaggerating the spread of the disease.

"He [the minister] went on to suggest that he thought it was a way for them to attract more donations to fund cholera projects or projects to fight cholera.

"Haiti has for a very long time had a very complex relationship with the NGO's. In fact, there are more NGOs operating out of Haiti than anywhere else in the world per capita.

"These NGOs have an astounding amount of money and have also spent a lot of money here but many Haitians say that they have very little to show for it."

While I would heartily agree that NGOs (No Good Organizations?) are notorious the world over as at best a self serving racket and at worst the racist operatives of a neocolonialist scheme of keeping the so-called third world deliberately undeveloped and starving, I would not take the threat of not only cholera but far worse pandemics arising out of the living hell that is today's Haiti. That this is a deliberate policy of promotion of UN and global financier's making there can be no doubt. The same Obama administration that is carrying out what amounts to nothing other than a false flag protection racket for the heroin trade in Afghanistan, (recently lavishly admired by none other than George W. Bush) to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, has refused to lift a finger to save Haiti. It is of a piece with the same logic that has Bernanke doing everything to save the cancerous bubble of speculative debt at the expense of the world's population...

Obama's Deconstruction

My question is what happens to Obama's brain when he goes off his teleprompter? The other day on the Daily Show, Jon Stewart famously joked about his "Heckuva job" remark. "You don't really want to use that phrase, dude." Professor Obama then nervously explicated that this had been an intentional pun. In what parallel universe, except Obama's, does his mealy mouthed defense (in imitation of his equally loathed predecessor) of Larry Summers' execrable record as a towel boy for Wall Street have even the faintest resemblance to a pun?
